How to sign PDF

    Add the document

    Drop the PDF you need to sign, up to 200 MB, or browse for it. If it is password protected, type the password when asked.

    Create your signature

    Under Signature, choose Draw and sign with a mouse, finger or stylus, or choose Type, enter your name and pick a Style such as Caveat, Dancing or Homemade. Then press Use signature.

    Place it on the page

    Click the spot where the signature belongs. Drag it to fine-tune the position and pull the corner handle to resize it.

    Sign other pages if needed

    Use the Previous page and Next page arrows to move through the document and click again wherever another signature or initial is required.

    Save the signed PDF

    Press Sign PDF, then Download. The signed copy is saved with the word signed added to its file name.

Draw it or type it

There are two ways to make your signature:

  • Draw gives you a pad that responds to a mouse, trackpad, touchscreen or pen. On devices with a pressure-sensitive stylus, stroke width follows your pressure for a more natural look. If the first attempt is wobbly, press Clear and try again.
  • Type turns your name into a handwriting-style signature. Choose between the Caveat, Dancing and Homemade styles and preview the result before pressing Use signature.

Either way, the result is a transparent image, so it sits cleanly over lines and text without a white box around it.

Your signature never leaves your device

A signature is personal, and so is the document it goes on. Here, both stay local. The drawing pad, the placement preview and the final merge into the PDF all run on your own machine inside the browser. Nothing is transmitted, nothing is saved to an account, and there is no signature library sitting on a server somewhere. Close the tab and it is gone.

What kind of signature this is

It helps to be precise. This tool adds a simple electronic signature, which is a visual mark placed on the page. It is not a certificate-based digital signature, so it does not cryptographically lock the file or prove identity on its own. Simple e-signatures are widely used for routine paperwork, yet acceptance depends on your jurisdiction and on what the other party requires. For contracts where the stakes are high, confirm the expected signing method first.

Finishing touches

Is my signature stored anywhere?

No. The signature image is created in your browser and exists only for that session. Neither the image nor the PDF is uploaded, and both are gone once you close the tab.

How do I change a signature I already placed?

Select it and use its remove button to delete that placement, or press Create a new signature to start over with a fresh drawing or typed name.

Can I add a date or my printed name next to the signature?

Use Add text to PDF for that. It lets you type text such as a date or printed name anywhere on the page, and you can run it before or after signing.
